During the 2018-2019 school year, Harleton High School was faced with the task of finding not only a new head football coach, but also a new athletic director. After a long and tedious interview process, the school board decided to hired the offensive coordinator of Hallsville High School, Coach Kyle Little.

Though Little has never held the position of athletic director, he does not lack the experience. He has been a coach for 19 years, and throughout that time, he has coached football, basketball, softball, track, and power lifting.

Little maintains the importance of multi-sport success: not just football. “What I expect is for us to have a competitive program in every sport. Obviously I want us to win, but more than that, I want us to be competitive in every single sport we participate in.”

His presence and the recent transfer of Harleton to class 2A have revived the coaches and community.

Head girls basketball Coach Johnson says, “I like him because he is concerned about all programs, not just football. He also seems like he has a genuine heart for kids, while also being present and approachable.”

So far, the teachers and students have not been disappointed.

“So far everything’s been great. The kids work hard; I’ve been really impressed with their work ethic. We have good kids, not a whole lot of trouble makers. The teachers have also been really supportive. In fact,  I’ve had a lot of teachers offer to help with anything they can.”

While in high school, Little competed in football, basketball, and powerlifting. He emphasized the incredibly positive impact sports had on his life as a teenager.

“Sports help you in so many different ways. It teaches you responsibility, it’s like life. You have to show up everyday and work hard. When you get out in the real world you’re gonna have to show up everyday at work and work hard, because if you don’t, you’re gonna get fired. Sports teach you that you have to be responsible to more people than just yourself. A lot of people want to be selfish, but when you’re on a team you have to consider the team. Just like in real life when you have a family, you have to consider them and not just yourself.”
