It has finally arrived! The moment the whole world was waiting for… or at least today’s country music fans! Country music stars Dan & Shay’s latest album released back in 2018 was a self-titled album, which contained the most-streamed country song in 2018.  With over 400,000,000 streams, fans were head over heels for “Tequila” and anticipated the next album not even 6 months after the full release of “Dan + Shay.”

On September 29, 2019, the first hint of upcoming music was released when Dan & Shay stated a single date on all social media. 10.4.19. A hyperlink to pre-save the song was posted, but that was the only information given. Four days later, on October 2, 2019, Dan and Shay released a teaser containing pop star Justin Bieber. This came as a shock to many fans on both sides. Questions arose such as, “ Is Justin converting to country?” and, “ Have Dan and Shay transformed into a pop duo?” Rumors were this would be a love song directed towards Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, who recently got married.

Just when suspense was about to have people lose control, on October 3, 2019, at 11 p.m, “10,000 Hours” was released and available to the public. To say fans were blown away would be an understatement. The trio the world never knew it needed has finally arrived. Social media went wild!

To introduce the song, a melodic acoustic guitar accompanies Shay Mooney and Dan Smyers’ always-never-ceasing-to-amaze-us harmonization. This harmonization is enough to make you fall in love with a voice. The first verse and pre-chorus slide gracefully right into Chorus 1, and the question of when Justin Bieber will make an entrance starts to arise.

Chorus 1 contains only duo Dan & Shay and lasts for 5 lines. As soon as the Chorus 1 begins, we are overwhelmed with the willingness of these men’s hearts to love their wives. The song is about learning and spending the rest of your life with your significant other.

“I’d spend 10,000 hours and 10,000 more

Oh, if that’s what it takes to learn that sweet heart of yours

And I might never get there but I’m gonna try

If it’s 10,000 hours or the rest of my life

 I’m gonna love you.”

This is a song for any young, old, heartbroken, or love-struck person. After a brief harmonized humming solo of the duo after Chorus 1, the soft and sweet-toned voice of Justin enters. His solo voice complements the song, as well as Dan and Shay, by adding a different sound to modern country. It’s no doubt that Justin has Hailey on his mind as he performs this soon-to-be #1 hit on country and pop radio stations. Once Justin enters the pre-chorus, Dan & Shay join in to provide a beautiful harmonized background humming. Even though this we-never-saw-this-coming trio collaborated, the singers have added their own touch to each solo distributed. You can hear the distinct difference in Justin’s voice from Dan and Shay’s voices.

As Justin takes a turn at the chorus, we are amazed at how well country suits him. On the lyrics, “Oh, if that’s what it takes to learn that sweet heart of yours,” Justin changes the tone of his voice to differ from Shay’s and add a personal touch. The bridge consists of Justin reaching for higher octaves and smoothly glides right back into the chorus, where all three singers collaborate and finish the song with a strong but steady sound.

The official music video was also released on October 4th, and quickly got over 10,000,000 views on the first day. As of October 6th, it was #6 on trending for YouTube. This song has already impacted many fans and given everyone a sense of hope that there is someone special out there that’s going  to be ready to spend 10,000 hours, the rest of his/her life with them, and love them with his/her whole heart.
